January–February: Stay off frozen turf. Check irrigation system for damage. Plan spring projects.

March: Pre-emergent herbicide before forsythia blooms. Don't fertilize yet.

April: First fertilization. Seed bare spots with tall fescue. Mulch beds.

May: Lawn should be lush. Begin mowing at 3–3.5 inches. Irrigate as needed.

June: Raise mowing height to 4 inches. Water deeply 1x per week. No fertilizer on fescue.

July–August: This is survival mode for cool-season lawns. Keep mowing height high, water weekly, and don't fertilize.

September: Your most important month. Aerate, overseed, and apply starter fertilizer. This sets up next year's lawn.

October: Continue watering new seed. Apply winterizer fertilizer in late October.

November: Final mow at 3 inches. Blow out irrigation system before hard freeze.

December: Stay off frozen turf. Review next year's project list.
