Choose a deck if:
• Your home is elevated and you need to match door height
• Your yard is significantly sloped
• You want to maximize usable outdoor space on a tight lot
• You prefer the look and feel of wood or composite
• You want direct access from your home at grade level

Cost comparison: Patios typically run $18–$35 per sq ft. Decks run $40–$90 per sq ft for composite. So for equal square footage, a deck costs roughly 2–3x more than a patio.

Maintenance comparison: Concrete pavers need sealing every 2–3 years. Composite decks need washing but no sealing. Wood decks need staining or sealing every 1–2 years.
